The hardest part of most tasks is just beginning. Taking that first step toward a goal can seem daunting when you’re standing at the foot of the mountain, looking up. Yet, if you never take that first step, you’ll never make it to the top.
As an activity that works every muscle in the body with no impact and is a cardiovascular activity, swimming is hard to beat. Your blood is pumping; you stay cool in the pool; you get a great workout; you emerge refreshed. Swimming is also a life skill that everyone should know. For a period of time in human history, swimming was all but forgotten, as society transitioned to an agricultural society and had no need for swimming.
Fidencio “Fiddy” Enriquez had an overwhelming fear of water that prohibited him from learning to swim at a young age. But, at 31 years old, he decided that he was ready to face his fears and learn to swim. Fiddy enlisted the help of the adult swim program at ClubSport San Jose and enrolled in our “Be Vacay Ready” series. It took him 16 lessons total or two-full cycles, but he finally learned to swim!
Imagine, if you will, you are preparing for the morning’s interview and going over possible questions while you review your resume. As you clean up your breakfast, you somehow accidentally crumple and toss the last copy of your resume directly in the trash can. Recalling the advice that you should always bring a hand-off-ready resume to your interview, you panic and rescue it from the rubbish and attempt to smooth it out.
Jessica Phillips was overweight and frustrated after pursuing her weight loss goals for over a year without seeing much progress, when she attended a REV32 information night. She had been a gym member got over a year, working out on her own. The statement the REV32 trainer made that resonated most with her was “What is your why? That is your driving force.” For Jessica, the answer was obvious, her two kids.
With the excitement of next week’s 123rd running of the Boston Marathon building, we thought we would help offer some additional motivation for our (hopeful) endurance athletes.
